CHIAROSCURO
18'' x 24''
In this project, we used charcoal of all different intensities including white. We also used squishy erasers.
I enjoyed this project because of the evolution of it. We started by outlining with just a pencil and slowly graduated to charcoal, shading and lightening, creating value and contrast.

ACRYLIC TRANSFER/PAINTING
10'' x 10''
In this project, I used crayon wax, paint, acrylic medium, and a leaf.
The original photo of me playing my violin was taken in Canada as I was playing on a rock in the middle of the ocean. It's hard to see but behind me, there is a snow covered mountain that represents transcending to a higher place even though i'm on the ocean, at sea level.

Chalk Pastel Drawing
STIPPLING
In this piece, I used a pen to create hundreds of dots in different concentrations to create a self portrait. This 8.5" by 11" piece of paper took hours of concentration and meticulous dotting and still isn't really complete. With more time, I would've liked to emphasize more shadows and fix my many errors in dot quality.
SONG LYRIC PAINTING
The song I chose for my art was Strawberry Fields by the Beatles. I was inspired to use this song by a scene in the movie Across The Universe. In this scene, Jude creates a piece of art by pinning and throwing strawberries on a canvas. I expressed emotion by getting out my anger while throwing red, paint filled cotton balls at my canvas. I tried to use brighter colors to create a light and peaceful mood so that when I threw strawberries on top, they would stand out more.
